Uhh.. Let me give you a FACT. According to the Failed States Index of 2007, Philippines got a total score of 83.2, making us the 56th worst country in the world. uhh… Sudan is the worst country.. scoring a total of 113.7 <so this gives you a clue that the higher a country scores, the worse it is.> Well, the people who established this Index of ‘failed’ countries considered 12 factors. Let me enumerate everything and our corresponding score for each.
Demographic Pressures. Our score: 7.0 (bad)
-Problems regarding population increase (like joblessness)
Refugees and Displaced Persons. Our Score: 5.7 (not bad, not good)
-Problems regarding displaced or evacuated people because of wars and calamities
Group Grievance. Our Score: 7.2 (bad)
-Problems regarding the dissatisfaction of majority of the people
Human Flight. Our Score: 6.7 (bad)
-Problems regarding Migration (often referred to as ‘Brain Drain’)
Uneven Development. Our Score: 7.6 (really bad)
-Problems regarding Capitalism (having rich and poor parts in the state)
Economy. Our Score: 5.8 (not that bad)
-Pretty Obvious. Problems on Resources and stuff.
Delegitimization of State. Our Score: 8.2 (this is the worst problem of our country)
-Problems regarding lost of people’s trust to the government
Public Services. Our Score: 5.9 (not that bad)
-Problems regarding the effectiveness of the government in terms of providing the needs of the people
Human Rights. Our Score: 6.8 (bad)
- Pretty Obvious too. Problems regarding the effectiveness of the government in terms of sustaining the rights of the people.
Security Apparatus. Our Score: 7.6 (really bad)
-Problems regarding the effectiveness of military.
Factionalized Elites. Our Score: 7.8 (really bad)
-Problems regarding quarrels or factions among leaders.
External Intervention. Our Score: 6.9 (bad)
-Problems regarding interference from other countries. (In our case, US of A interferes.)
Adding everything will give you 83.2 and that’s it.
